I'm retired, why should I vote yes? |
Ask any realtor and they will tell you that your property values are affected by the quality of schools in the area. In this tough real estate market it is vital that our schools remain strong.

Didn't we just pass something in the last election. Why are school districts always asking for money? |
In the last election, a renewal of the school district Maintenance and Operations budget was passed. Since this was a renewal, there was not an increase in the tax rate. School districts are required to renew these types of funds every seven years. These funds are used to provide teacher salaries and fund programs that affect students throughout the district. These funds are not allowed to fund school construction or renovations.
In this election the school district is asking voters to pass a Class B Bond. These funds are designated by law to be used for new construction or renevation of buildings. These funds cannot be used for salaries or programs.

Doesn't the state give the school district all the money they need? |
The answer to this is absolutely not. The state of Arizona is 49th out of 50 states in providing funds to schools. With the slashing of school budgets in Arizona over the past year we have moved backwards.
The state has frozen funding for new school construction and placed our growing district in a bind to complete renovations and build new schools to eleviate overcrowding.
