Frequently Asked Questions
Will my taxes go up? |
Taxes will NOT go up. A yes vote means that your taxes will stay the same.
|
I'm retired, why should I vote yes? |
First, your taxes will NOT go up.
Second, ask any realtor and they will tell you that your property values are affected by the quality of schools in the area. In this tough real estate market it is vital that our schools are not forced to cut programs.
Third, the employees that work for the school districts largely live in the communities that they are working in. School districts will be required to cut millions of dollars of employee salaries from their budgets. This will increase the number of unemployed in our community.
|
Why are school districts always asking for money? |
As you may have heard, taxes will NOT go up when voting yes in this election. This is a renewal of funds for schools that was passed approximately 7 years ago. School districts are required to renew these types of funds every seven years. It seems that schools are asking for more money when it is just asking to keep the funds they are currently getting.
|
Doesn't the state give the school district all the money they need? |
The answer to this is absolutely not. Including the type of funds that are up for renewal in this election. Including these funds the state of Arizona is 49th out of 50 states in providing funds to students. Without these additional funds we would fall to 50th. To provide Arizona with an educated workforce the state must do better. Until then, the schools need to keep all of the funds they are currently getting.
|
Why don't the school districts campaign for this election? |
It is against Arizona state law for school districts to use any school district resources to promote a specific vote in an election. The only time the school district personnel can display their support is on their own time, using their own funds.
